Atlantic Media wins best Business in Seacoast Award! Atlantic Media Ltd., a woman-owned video production company in Portsmouth, NH, recently received the 2005 "Small Business of the Year Award" from the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce for its focus on community service.
Based in Portsmouth, NH, Atlantic Media is a full-service video production company that creates documentaries, commercials, educational and promotional videos, DVDs and web-based media.
President Dorothy Ahlgren sees the key to their success as becoming connected to our clients and their stories. Whether that story comes from the American Lung Association, Measured Progress, the Currier Museum of Art, the NH Department of Agriculture, or the Jane Goodall Institute, the producers know that it is important to let each client tell a compelling story. Says producer Nancy Beach, "What makes us different is that we do so many kinds of video, we don't have one template for all our clients. In telling their story, their passion often becomes our passion."
One project in the final stages of production that moves the entire office is a documentary on the life of Babatunde Olatunji, the late, internationally renowned Nigerian drummer known as the father of world music.
Recent visitors to Atlantic Media's spacious offices on Brewery Lane might have found the staff packed into one of their two video editing suites dancing to the rhythms of Olatunji's music while editor, Brian Vawter, perseveres.
Their business model has allowed staff to pursue not only projects that have helped to build the company, but also projects that have helped build community and that have been close to their hearts. With non-profit, for-profit and government agencies on their roster, there have been a wide variety of stories to be told.
Liz Doucette, administrative director, recognizes their good fortune at working together over the years. "Our work with our clients has been very colorful. Our lives at Atlantic Media are really beyond what we could have imagined."
A focus on letting clients shine has kept Atlantic Media out of the limelight. "Our editing and the audio should be so good that you don't notice it," says Beach. The viewer gets caught up in the unfolding tale.
